Cruz: Failure Is Not An Option

Ted Cruz did not mince words in an interview on Fox News.

After meeting with leaders for lunch to discuss healthcare, Cruz said the he thinks they are close to resolving the remaining issues with the healthcare bill and are “getting to yes”.

However, Cruz was abundantly clear, “Failure is not an option.”

As usual, Senator Cruz is absolutely right. Republican’s have been campaigning on this promise for almost eight years. When the Republicans say they want to repeal and replace Obamacare with a free market solution, they win elections in massive landslides.

2010: House

2014: Senate

2016: Presidency

Since 2010, there have been over 1000 Democrats defeated from national to local elections. The Democratic party is literally a remnant of what it once was. The vast majority of this can be attributed to the GOP promising to repeal and replace Obamacare. God help them if they screw this up.

Is $20 An Hour The New $15?

In an unbelievable clip from Atlanta, Hillary Clinton supporter LaTonya Allen, claimed that the new minimum wage should be $20 an hour. To quote her directly:

“The wages do not help us. We need to make 15 – actually we need to make it 20 dollars an hour.”

Clearly LaTonya has done extensive work with economic analysis and and has intricately studied the long term implications of upping the minimum wage. I am sure she has read this report highlighting that at $15 an hour, her home state of Georgia would lose 329,000 jobs in the next few years. Or this report showing that after #WeWant15 happened in many cities, Wendys started using robots instead of workers. Or this study that said for every $1 increase to the minimum wage, there is a 14% increase of a midlevel restaurant going out of business.

LaTonya, I have a simple question. Why stop at $20? Let’s get serious about inequality and demand that everyone make $40 an hour to really stick it to the man. After all, there is just as much economic evidence for $40 an hour as there is $20.

Planned Parenthood is in Shambles

Buzzfeed’s interview of Planned Parenthood CEO and terrible human being, Cecile Richards is one of the greatest things on the internet.  Richards has a palpable sense of panic over the possibility of  losing federal funding for her organization and it’s awesome.

Republicans have tried to defund Planned Parenthood for years. Now, with the GOP in control of both chambers of Congress and the executive branch, it’s extremely likely the nonprofit will be stripped of the more than $500 million it gets from the federal government for Medicaid reimbursements each year. So this provision in the bill was expected; what was setting in for those in the clinic is that the process had begun.

The interview went on to this gem:

Even Roe v. Wade, the 1973 law that legalized abortion, might be in danger. “Quite clearly the Supreme Court is an enormous risk,” Richards conceded, saying that she had “no hope” for President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, based on his past decisions.

While the interview is incredibly encouraging to those of us who don’t support killing babies, I cant help but be concerned. The GOP has no excuse. We control the House, Senate, Presidency, a majority of Governorships and state houses. If we do not dismantle Planned Parenthood, there is literally no one else to blame besides ourselves. More importantly, if this does not happen now, when will it happen? Will there be a time in the future when our control of government will be any larger? No. The Democrats are in shambles.

Strategically, now is an important time. The 2012 crop of Senators are up for reelection in 2018. “Legitimate rape” anyone? Yeah, those guys… If you’re not familiar, several GOP dumbasses candidates for Senate in 2012 said preposterous statements about rape that cost us a multiple seats. Those Democrat Senators are up for reelection and by conservative estimates, they could lose 4-6 seats very easily. All of this underscores the significance of defunding Planned Parenthood now. The Democrats are hurting and know bad days are ahead. Now is the time.

The GOP told us for years we needed all three branches of government to repeal Obamacare. The voters delivered, handing crippling defeats to the Democrats in three out of the past four cycles. How does the GOP thank its loyal voters? Leaked memos advocating the “fix” of Obamacare, not the repeal. Examples like this (and there are many more) are why I refuse to get my hopes up. However, if there is a hill to die on, this is the hill. If we wont support the sanctity of life, why the hell are we here?

VIDEO: Ashton Kutcher Gets Emotional Talking About His Heroic Work Fighting Sex Trafficking

Ashton Kutcher gave an incredibly powerful testimony describing his work fighting the sexual exploitation of children around the globe.

“I’m here today to defend the right to pursue happiness. It’s a simple notion. It’s bestowed upon all of us by our Constitution. Every citizen in this country has the right to pursue it and I believe that is incumbent upon us as citizens of this nation, as Americans, to bestow that right upon others. Upon each other and upon the rest of the world. But the right to pursue happiness, for so many, is stripped away. It’s raped. It’s abused. It’s taken by force, fraud, or coercion. It is sold for the momentary happiness of another.”

“I’ve been on FBI raids where I’ve seen things that no person should ever see,”

Kutcher went on to say,

“I’ve seen video content of a child that’s the same age as mine being raped by an American man that was a sex tourist in Cambodia. This child was so conditioned by her environment that she thought she was engaging in play”

“I’ve been on the other end of a phone call from my team asking for my help because we had received a call from the Department of Homeland Security telling us that a 7-year-old was being sexually abused and that content was being spread around the dark web. She had been abused and they’d watched her for three years, and they could not find the perpetrator — asking us for help. We were the last line of defense: an actor and his foundation were the last line of defense.”
