Donald Trump is making official today what I’ve been hearing over the weekend. The Supreme Court nominee is coming next week and the nominee will be from the list of people Trump already made public in the campaign.
I am told the two people considered to be at the front of the list are Neil Gorsuch of the 10th Circuit and Bill Pryor of the 11th Circuit, but there’s also a conservative effort behind the scenes to push Senator Mike Lee, but Senator Lee would prefer his brother, Thomas, who is on the list. Thomas Lee is an Associate Justice of the Utah Supreme Court, a state that has a troubled history with Trump. Putting the first Mormon, from Utah no less, on the Supreme Court, would be good politics for Trump. But, again, keep your eye on Gorsuch and Pryor.
Another contender for the role is Thomas Hardiman of the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals, but ABC News and I are both hearing the President intends to go with Neil Gorsuch unless something comes up in last minute vetting.
