Senate Democrats, scared of Congressman Tom Price, are intent on scuttling his nomination as Secretary of Health and Human Services. They want a congressional investigation into the congressman’s health care stocks. They claim he has all sorts of conflicts of interest being on the Budget Committee and owning stocks. But Price has complied with all ethics rules, laws, and disclosure requirements.
What’s so crazy and hypocritical is that several of Price’s Senate accusers have more stock in the healthcare sector than Price. HELP Committee Member Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, personally or jointly with his wife, owns tens of thousands of dollars in companies, including UnitedHealth Group, Anthem, Amgen, Biogen, Merck, and Ionis Pharmaceuticals. In 2015, they purchased thousands of dollars of shares of Amgen, Gilead, Biogen, and Merck.
Finance Committee Member Sen. Tom Carper owns over $100,000 in Lincoln National Corp. stock. His wife separately owns tens of thousands of dollars in stocks, including Medtronic Inc., PDL BioPharma Inc, Universal Health Realty Income Trust, Omega Healthcare Investors, Medical Properties Trust, and Johnson & Johnson. In 2015 and 2016, Mrs. Carper trade thousands in Bristol Myers Squibb, Johnson & Johnson, Universal Health Realty, Met Life, PDL Biopharma, Medtronic, and Prudential stock.
Finance Committee Member Mark Warner, through his “MRW Blind Trust,” owns hundreds of thousands in companies like Halozyme Therapeutics Inc. (over $500k), Intrexon Corp. (over $250k), Ziopharm Oncology Inc. (over $250k), and Harvest Intrexon Enterprise Fund (over $50k). Through various holdings, he sold over $50,000 worth of MedOptions Inc. stock in 2015 and bought in excess of $100,000 in Harvest Intrexon Enterprise Fund in April of last year. In July, he later bought more of that same stock.
All of this is publicly available information. All of these Senators preside over various aspects of healthcare and budgetary matters before Congress in the same way Tom Price does.
This is just another example of the Democrats’ hypocrisy and hysteria when it comes to handling Donald Trump’s nominees. They cannot help themselves but be jackasses in this process and they are particularly fretful because they know Tom Price does have an Obamacare replacement plan and is exceedingly competent to be the Secretary of HHS.
