It’s easy to take sides in this election and pretend the other side is the enemy, but let’s be reminded we have very real enemies trying to mess with America.
CBS News has reported that intelligence sources confirm a potential attack planned for the day before the election targets New York City.
It is believed New York, Texas and Virginia are all possible targets, though no specific locations are mentioned. A U.S. law enforcement source briefed on the threat information told CBS News’ Milton that the threat is possibly legitimate and concerning. The source said the threat may be aspirational and hence the lack of specificity. The source said there has been pressure on al Qaeda and its affiliates AQAP and AQIS (al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent) to regain relevance with its mission.
New York City mayor De Blasio and other authorities took the news in stride, as the city is a frequent target of terrorists and those inspired by their ideology.
De Blasio said the city was ramping up security for the next several days even before the terror threat became public.
“We were already planning an extraordinary police presence for Tuesday,” the mayor said. “New Yorkers should assume Sunday, Monday, Tuesday is going to be a continuum of a high level of police presence.”
The two people running for president act more like jilted middle school crushes than enemies. Their friendship (yes, they have one) will likely survive beyond this election. At least their daughters will be BFFs.
It’s fairly unlikely we’ll get Al Queda to like us, ever. While we fight our political battles, remember that when we attack each other politically with words and actions of hate, they’re laughing at us and planning the next attack.
