President Obama, in his star-studded ride into the sunset (but he’s not leaving Washington), let us all know his true legacy: We’re too dumb to know our behinds from the hole in the ground.
STEPHANOPOULOS: Did you underestimate Vladimir Putin?
OBAMA: You know, I don’t think I underestimated him, but I think that I underestimated the degree to which, in this new information age, it is possible for misinformation for cyber hacking and so forth to have an impact on our open societies, our open systems, to insinuate themselves into our democratic practices in ways that I think are accelerating.

Over the past eight years, Putin has played Obama and won at every turn (Syria, Crimea, Ukraine). The U.S. has a GDP eight times larger than Russia’s. Our military budget is ten times larger. Russia is not a match for America. But Putin is more than a match for Obama.
Our president didn’t underestimate Putin, he overestimated himself while holding most Americans in contempt.
Americans, in Obama’s view, are too dumb to:
- Know real news from fake news
- Decide who to vote for as president
- Choose their own health care provider
- Discern America’s friends from enemies
- Recognize Islamic terrorism
- Handle guns
- Know what’s best for Israel (and Israelis are too dumb to boot)
- Operate computers and email
- Educate our own children
- Know the difference between boys and girls
Have I left anything off the list?
Those celebrities who attended Obama’s going-away fête are MUCH smarter than the rest of hayseed, gun and religion-clinging, outside Hollywood America. Bruce Springsteen and Lena Dunham know better than the rest of us. (Springsteen is worth admiring for his music and hard work. Dunham has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.)
Perhaps Obama has let them in on some John Galtish secret of how Americans are so dumb and he is so smart.
That’s Obama’s real legacy. Americans were so dumb we elected him twice, while he systematically destroyed the Democratic Party, religious liberty, and America’s respect in the world.
