Pro-Life Voters Are Being Conned

Pro-life President Ronald Reagan put Anthony Kennedy on the Supreme Court. Kennedy has preserved abortion rights while on the Supreme Court and has imposed gay marriage on the nation.

Pro-life President George H. W. Bush put David Souter on the Supreme Court. He was more liberal than Kennedy.

Pro-life President George W. Bush put Sam Alito and John Roberts on the Court. They are two of the most pro-life justices to have ever served on the Court. But they have been unable to end abortion. And thanks to John Roberts, Obamacare is the law of the land and has been used as an instrument to advance the abortion agenda.

Bush likewise pursued policies to make it easier to adopt. He had a Republican controlled Congress for most of his tenure. We got a national partial birth abortion ban in 2003, but we never got Planned Parenthood defunded. We have not been able to get a prohibition on abortions after a child can feel pain.

Now pro-life leaders are arguing pro-life voters must vote for Trump because of the Supreme Court. Frankly, the track record of Republican Presidents and Supreme Court picks bodes poorly for the pro-life cause. Reagan and both Bushes were committed to the cause and even they could not stack the Court enough to get rid of it. Trump is not even committed to the cause.

Further, pro-lifers are being told they need to vote for a man who purported paid for an abortion because he will fight for them. There is no evidence of that. In fact, the evidence right now is that Trump is attempting to sabotage Republican chances of holding Congress, thereby ensuring that even if he wins he will never be able to get a pro-life justice put on the Court.

And what are pro-lifers giving up? Their integrity.

“But Bill Clinton” does not hold up in the face of all these women coming forward to claim Trump sexually assaulted them. “But Hillary” does not hold up in the face of Trump’s willingness to hand the congress to Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi.

The pro-life cause is sacrificing its integrity and its ability to build coalitions across races, genders, and parties by hitching their banner to the Trump cause. They’ll gain the White House, lose their soul, and not even advance their agenda.
