Consider this tweet from Mother Jones, which encapsulates the leftwing criticism against Trump’s Education Secretary nominee, Betsy DeVos.

In other words, Dick and Betsy DeVos gave their own money to education institutions that are non-traditional and gave little extra money to schools for which the government already taxes them. The leftwing criticism is that the DeVos family should have given more money to institutions for which they are already taxed. Can you imagine if conservatives insisted liberals donate to the Department of Defense?
When Republicans say this about rich liberals who want higher taxes, the left dismisses the criticism. When a billionaire wants the government to increase taxes, the billionaire can cut a check himself. He does not have to wait for the government to tax him. But when conservatives point this out, liberals get outraged.
Now, the left is pointing out the exact same thing. The DeVos family already contributes to public education via the tax system. Just like the billionaire Democrat, they could choose to write a bigger check for public education, but instead, unlike the billionaire Democrat, they went out and started their own charter school to benefit the community and gave money to other charter and Christian schools.
In fact, Dick and Betsy DeVos have contributed more of their personal money to the education of the underprivileged than many of their loudest critics. Their critics just do not like that the DeVos family chose to wisely contribute instead of donating to school systems that were failing and that would take the DeVos money and send it to the very organizations causing the collapse of the public school system — teachers unions.
The criticisms are all about the money because DeVos’s critics know that if she is Secretary of Education she will ensure public money benefits children’s education and not public sector unions. Teachers unions long ago stopped caring about education and now only care about their gravy train.
The government, according to Democrats, is the only thing we all belong to, therefore it is the one place we should invest our money. This happens more and more in secular societies where liberals replace God with government. Only investing in government is considered legitimate. Investing in churches, church schools, and charter schools is illegitimate. That is unfortunate, but that is what the intolerant peddlers of tolerance believe.
