I travel a ridiculous amount — upwards of 100,000 miles a year. One day perhaps I can get a Netjet subscription or Delta Private card so people stop yelling at me in the airport bathroom (true story). I have traveled so much this past year, I spent a week in ICU with blood clots in my lungs (also a true story).

I have, for the longest time, had a Swiss Army bag, but it is starting to get old and more and more airlines are starting to crack down on sizing. Last month I tried out a bag from Away Travel. I just ordered my second in the larger carry on size and they sent me a refer a friend link that I want to share.

They make carry on bags in two sizes. The coolest part is that both come with a rechargeable, 37-watt lithium battery built in. Charge the sucker and then when you’re at the airport you can charge your phone and tablet at the same time just by plugging into the two USB ports on the bag. It is genius and it really works.

Their bags have four wheels, roll easily, are very light, have a compartment for shoes and big items, then have an ingenious system to pile in clothes and press them down flat to hold more in a smaller space. On top of that, there’s an internal sleeve for a laptop.

i’ve become a fan. The bags are hardshell, lightweight, and durable.

Go check them out if you need a new bag. And, to be clear, this is a personal endorsement. I’m not getting paid by Away, although allegedly they give me a $20.00 discount on my next piece of luggage if you use my referral code.

Oh, and they’re a heck of a lot cheaper than Tumi, etc., but great quality.
