Bernie Sanders has decided to join the left’s persecution of Christians by opposing the President’s nominee for Deputy Budget Director solely because the nominee is a Christian.
Russ Vought, the President’s nominee, authored a blog post here at The Resurgent a while back in defense of Wheaton College’s decision to require its professors be Christian in their world view. A professor had claimed that Muslims and Christians worship the same God. Vought pointed out Christianity 101 — Christians believe salvation is through belief in Christ as Lord and Savior. Muslims reject Christ as Lord and Savior. Therefore, it is wrong to say Christians and Muslims worship the same god.
In fact, if you read Russ’s post it is an entirely reasonable defense of both Christianity and a religious school’s ability to set standards for its employment.
Bernie Sanders, however, has decided that voicing orthodox Christian beliefs is disqualifying for government. In doing so, Sanders is running afoul of our founders who believe there should be no religious test for government service. Vought is a practicing Christian with Christian beliefs and has not been afraid to defend them.
That is disqualifying to an atheist like Sanders, who would disqualify any real Christian since real Christians all believe as Vought does.
