Birtherism Had Underlying Facts (Unfortunately)

Ugh. I hate this issue. I banned birthers from RedState, do not accept the validity of birthers, and think it is a conspiracy theory unacceptable in political discourse. That goes for Trump too. But going back to this BuzzFeed piece I referenced last hour, it concludes this way.

The efforts aimed at opposing Trump are not like the birther conspiracy, insofar as they are based on factual concerns about real things. But, just as Donald Trump took credit for pushing the conspiracy theory about Obama’s birthplace until Obama released his “long-form” birth certificate, Monday’s electoral college vote could be the first in a series of steps that opponents won’t stop taking until Trump releases information, including his tax returns, and cuts ties with his businesses — or leaves office.

I could accurately write, “The efforts aimed at opposing Obama are like the birther conspiracy, insofar as they are based on factual concerns about real things.”

I realize the left/media only hears racism when the birther issue is raised, but the underlying issue was about factual concerns.

I think the facts are clear that Barack Obama is a natural born American citizen, but we were dealing with a man whose father was Kenyan and whose mother remarried a man who moved the family to Indonesia. The birthers were all muddled on the timeline of Barack Obama’s birth. The facts they had concerns about were those related to the timeline of Obama’s birth.

Many people who had those concerns, once they investigated them, came away concluding there was no concern at all. But many others spiraled into conspiracy theories.

And that makes them exactly like the Russian stuff. The Russians hacked the DNC. The Democratic conspiracy is that the Russians hacked the election. They are arguing about the emoluments clause, which is the conspiracy equivalent of arguing about the natural born citizen clause with Obama.

Now I realize the left will get on their high horse and take serious issue with the comparisons, but the comparisons stand up.

Barack Obama is an American and there is no evidence or suggestion from the government that the Russians actually hacked the election. It is the height of arrogance to think that hacking the DNC equaled hacking the election.
