Western Europe is collapsing in a drumbeat of mass attacks, with a truck barreling into a crowded Christmas market in the center of Berlin, killing at least nine, according to the AP.
The truck crashed into the market outside the capital’s popular Christmas market at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.
AP Television footage showed a large Scania truck with its windshield smashed out on the sidewalk alongside the market, with a swarm of ambulances nearby. A large Christmas tree with a gold star on top was toppled over nearby in the street.
Police have detained one person, according to AFP on Twitter. While information is still sketchy, one witness already knows it was an attack, not an accident.
“It was definitely deliberate,” Mike Fox, a tourist from Birmingham, England, told the AP.
It would not be premature to speculate what the driver may have shouted as he plunged his big Scania rig into the crowd. If I had to, I would guess it’s the same thing that the man who shot and killed the Russian ambassador in Ankara, Turkey shouted.
Pray for Berliners, who are being advised to stay indoors. Pray that the next U.S. administration won’t be so naive and blind to the danger of accepting large numbers of Muslim refugees. Even if this attack was not related to radical Islam, the kneejerk reactions we are all feeling means that their terror is working.
