BREAKING: Pruitt Confirmed as Head of EPA

The Senate voted 52-46 today to confirm Donald Trump’s nominee to lead the EPA.  Joe Manchin (D-WV), and Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) both voted for Pruitt, with liberal republican Susan Collins voting against. Democrats had been delaying the vote, keeping the Senate in session late last night to rail against Pruitt. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell had had nothing but praise for Trump’s new head of the EPA.

“He’s exceptionally qualified. He’s dedicated to environmental protection. And, as someone with state government experience, he understands the real-world consequences of EPA actions and knows that balance is the key to making policies that are sustainable over the long-term”

Pruitt has been a popular pick this far among conservatives who are weary of EPA overreach. During Obama’s 8 years of essentially legislating regulations by executive order, Pruitt led the fight against the EPA’s abusive policies. Senator Tom Udall (D-NM), while railing against Pruitt, noted that “Attorney General Pruitt made his name opposing EPA rules.”

The battle over Pruitt’s nomination further highlights the disconnect between Democrats and average Americans. While they rally against a man for fighting EPA regulations, Americans are increasingly weary of big government and executive overreach. Under the Obama administration the EPA expanded the Clean Water Act to include any seasonal standing body of water, whether it connects directly to a flowing body of water or not. A “seasonal standing body of water” consists of the puddle that forms in your backyard during a rainy spring season, which is absolutely absurd. Americans are getting sick and tired of this ridiculous overreach.

Trump may be experiencing a tumultuous time right now, but he can take comfort in knowing that Democrats are struggling just as mightily. They’re starting unpopular political fights to protect unpopular regulations and obstructing the agenda of Republicans that have been given overwhelming control of the federal government and state governments across the country. As long as Democrats continue to fight against the will of the people, Donald Trump will continue to be the teflon man. I’m starting to think they will never learn.
