Quin Hillyer, veteran conservative pundit and co-signer to the excellent “Case Against Trump” piece that Erick posted on this site on Friday, has just posted this bit of breaking news on his personal blog:
Big, exclusive news: One final new contestant may emerge this week to wrest the Republican presidential nomination away from alleged billionaire Donald Trump.
I can reliably report that the former U.S. Senator from Oklahoma, Dr. Tom Coburn, would accept a draft from the convention floor if delegates petition successfully to put his name in nomination.

It goes without saying that #NeverTrump and #FreeTheDelegates should unite around Coburn’s candidacy, if Hillyer’s report is confirmed. Coburn is a full-spectrum conservative—and, in particular, a hero to limited-government/fiscal conservatives—whose two-term U.S. Senate career was marked by a passionate devotion to cutting government waste. His name has been floated as a possible #NeverTrump candidate since the fateful Indiana primary, but until now, there has been no confirmation that Coburn is actually willing to challenge the orange-hued clown’s hostile takeover of the Republican Party.
Tom Coburn would be an exceptional President of the United States. I’m very sympathetic to Erick’s suggestion of a Scott Walker-Ted Cruz ticket, but we have no confirmation of Walker’s willingness to challenge Trump from the floor. If Tom Coburn is willing, then #FreeTheDelegates should unite behind his name in a convention floor insurgency.
The stakes are high. Very high.
