I think Donald Trump must read my columns. This week, he did two things I predicted. First, he went back to middle-class-boosting economic policy, heavy on anti-climate-change; and second, he dove headfirst into the Second Amendment.
There are two issues I predicted back in May that the Clinton campaign will find indefensible. One is her globalist climate change fearmongering, which ties to economic policy, energy independence, and tax plans. The other is fears by average gun owners that she will try to move toward a gun confiscation policy.
Trump is hitting both of these, and doing it in typical Trump fashion, by making an outrageous statement to get the media talking about the issue.
If the liberal press (but those two things are mostly the same, aren’t they?) hasn’t caught on to Trump’s modus operandi by now, they’re hopeless.
While the media gives Hillary a pass for seating terror boosters in the crowd in full camera view, they interpret Trump’s remarks on the Second Amendment and liberal activist judges as a death threat. Trump would have it no other way. He meant it as a double entendre that he could later “clarify” after the predictable media frenzy.
I predict Trump is going to pound these two issues, in which Clinton is running against mainstream national opinion, for the remainder of the campaign. Of course, he’ll still go after Her with every other weapon at his (and Vladimir’s) disposal, but his public statements will always move back to these two primary issues.
Clinton has no defense against them–she really wants to repeal the Second Amendment. She really wants to join Team World to defeat the evil Global Warming Monster. Most regular people just want to get a better job, pay less taxes, and live better. They don’t want to pay for Al Gore to jet around in his chem-trail producing private jet while they pay greenmail to Bangladesh for our carbon footprint.
Most people want to defend themselves from criminals and thugs. They realize that nutjobs, racists, and radical Islamic terrorists want to kill us using guns, and they’d prefer to have one lest they find themselves defenseless in a bad situation. The police can’t be everywhere at once, and Democrats tend to paint the police as the enemy anyway.
Conservatives of all stripes, love Trump or hate him (I don’t hate Trump, I merely believe with all my heart and soul that he’d be a dangerous and truly terrible president), should stop attacking Trump on these issues.
Trump has dug a hole for himself so deep that even he can’t climb out of it. The media and Clinton’s oppo research file will keep him there. When Trump hits on issues that conservatives support, there’s no use joining the Hillary booster club by piling on.
There’s value to many of the issues Trump has carelessly lit on fire and tossed into a lake of gasoline. Illegal immigration, radical Islamic terror, activist judges, Second Amendment rights, and the left’s obsession with the socialist global warming religion are worth discussing.
Let Trump be Trump, and we might get some good out of him before he burns up and fades out.
