During the Bush years, Democrats considered dissent patriotic. But once Obama became President, any dissent was the product of racism, homophobia, misogyny, or other bigotry. Surely no one could disagree with President Obama without being an anti-American bigot.
Well, with Donald Trump losing, suddenly dissent is patriotic again and the Democrats intend to harass members of the Electoral College into rejecting Trump. They need over thirty members to do so and if those members refuse, the Democrats intend to use that refusal as proof that the Electoral College needs to be abolished.
This is again a perfect reminder that the Democrats actually only like constitutional structures when those structures benefit them. The moment the rules and structures of our constitutional system do not benefit the left, they seek to ignore them, remove them, or discredit them.
Of course, it is really hard to discredit the Electoral College because, as has previously been noted here, support for its abolition is inversely proportional to the strength of a party’s state by state support.
Instead of trying to upend the constitutional parameters of the United States, perhaps the Democrats would be better invested in finding a candidate who didn’t suck.
