Democrats Give Up on Impeaching Trump

That is not the headline for this Politico piece, but it might as well have been. The Democrats are trying to come up with an economic plan that relates to the voters they lost. They have decided they need those voters to take back congress.

But those are Democrats who voted for Trump and the “Impeach Trump” message is not going to work.

Democrats are walking a very fine line here. To rally their base, they need them thinking Democrat leaders will take out Trump. But to get the rest of the votes they need, they need everyone to realize they are not going to impeach Trump. So instead, they’ll try to pivot to find common ground on economic issues.

They have been feeding the fires of their base and their base wants violence and impeachment. Democrat leaders may soon see their own base turn against them because they are not willing to go down the impeachment road. The truth is that even among congressional Democrats there are not enough votes to impeach the President. They would just prefer the Democrat base not know that.
