Did ESPN Fire Reporter For Being A Conservative?

ESPN isn’t just unwelcoming to conservative viewers; it sounds like it’s unwelcoming to conservative employees too.  Former ESPN reporter, Britt McHenry, recently implied her conservative political positions influenced her firing.  In a now deleted tweet, she replied to an article discussing ESPN’s left-wing bias, “I mean I’ve been openly conservative… look how that ended up.”

If her suspicions are true, she would not be the first employee fired by ESPN for conservative comments outside of work.  McHenry was included in the 100 employees fired by the sports media giant in April.

ESPN’s decent into left-wing insanity has been well documented.  Its antiquated business model has stressed its bottom line due to cable cord-cutting, causing its executives to desperately seek relevance in hard left-wing politics.  The company’s obsession with social justice warriors has driven off conservative viewers, speeding up its decline.  From giving Bruce Jenner a Courage Award for taking female Hormone Replacement Therapy to cheerleading Black Lives Matter, ESPN has embraced every left wing social issue available, berating conservatives as bigots in the process.  With such arrogance towards its viewers, it is not a stretch to believe ESPN’s anti-conservative attitude would extend to its employees as well.

Clay Travis at Outkick the Coverage said it best:

ESPN decided to become a social justice warrior network, treating all liberal opinion makers as those worthy of promotion and casting aside all those who had the gall to challenge the new Disney world order.

Looking at Britt McHenry’s past, it’s not surprising that ESPN’s left-wing executives would disapprove of her.  Besides re-tweeting the spokeswoman of the Freedom Caucus, McHenry had previously attended a GOP event on Capitol Hill and shared a photo of herself with Speaker Paul Ryan on Instagram (now deleted).  She also stepped on the toes of Black Lives Matter (ESPN’s sacred cow) by “liking” a tweet critical of Colin Kaepernick’s kneeling during the national anthem.  And furthermore, on Tumblr, she supported US Soccer’s requirement for members of the men’s and women’s national teams to stand for the national anthem.

It is a privilege and an opportunity to play for the United States of America, and if an individual makes the choice to accept that privilege, then they should absolutely stand for the national anthem.

She continued,

Well guess what? Nobody, no country, not one thing is perfect in this world. But, as member of a national team you have the chance to embody what is good about our country.

ESPN has become so liberal that they may well have sent her to their “Subcommittee on Pro-American Activities” for investigation.

Following her support for the national anthem, she received plenty of comments and responded with an acknowledgment of her conservativism.

She also tweeted her support for Neil Gorsuch’s Supreme Court nomination in January.

It is important to note that these statements were on her personal social media accounts and did not affect her work.

Following her firing and subsequent suspicions of its motivation, she summed up her current situation thusly:

As most media coverage has skewed left in recent years, sports media has moved even further left than the hard news.  A once beloved pastime, American sports have become politicized by liberals in a way that even MSNBC could only dream.  It seems folks can’t turn on the game without a lecture on social justice.  People just want to watch the game, and conservatives working in sports news coverage simply want to do their job without politics getting in the way.  That shouldn’t be too much to ask.
