Georgia’s Lynn Westmoreland is Retiring

Westmoreland headed to Congress a champion of conservatives, but once he got there he became a friend of Boehner’s. He became one of the congressman who would routinely defend Boehner and attack conservative congressmen and their allies as in it for profit or what have you. While Westmoreland is personally a really nice guy, he over time frustrated conservatives who had expected him to fight. He did not want to fight, particularly with his friend John Boehner.

There has been open speculation that Westmoreland would abandon ship after Boehner left. In his district there are a number of people already looking at a run. Conservatives have a wonderful opportunity to pick up Westmoreland’s seat from the Establishment. The conservative grassroots have proven adept through that district at making gains in the state legislature.

This is going to be a fun race for conservatives nationally.
