Colorado Gov. Bill Owens has decided against running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Ben Nighthorse Campbell, according to The Associated Press and media reports.

The governor … scheduled a 1 p.m. news conference to discuss his decision. According to reports, Owens will cite family matters as contributing to his decision not to run.

The governor’s office would not confirm the reports, but said Owens asked that his announcement not be carried live.

I would have hated to see the next President of the United States waste time in the Senate when he should be gearing up to take on Hillary.

  • Hillary’s negatives are too high, and most Dems think she is a great Senator but shouldn’t run for President. She’s a press story.

How long does Owns have in the mansion in Denver? He’s going to have to get out more. I can’t see an unknown conservative governor — and I am somehting of a pessimist sometimes — making inroads with the neo-Nelson Rockefellers in the party. Then again, if the President nixes the big government stuff in his second term, the party might want to look that way.
