President Trump’s appointment of Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price signified a dramatic shift to the right within the HHS. Price’s record in the House of Representatives was one of consistent support for pro-life causes, and he was a leader in opposition to Obamacare.
But the good news for pro-lifers doesn’t end there.
The President’s latest HHS appointment is Charmaine Yoest, former CEO of Americans United for Life and former VP of Family Research Council.
From The Daily Signal:
“We are going to see a radical transformation occur within HHS,” Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America, told The Daily Signal in an interview. “I fully expect us [as a society] to talk about … the consequences of abortion on women.”
Yoest will serve as assistant secretary of public affairs, and will be involved in a number of communications-related activities. She will answer directly to Sec. Price.
March for Life Education and Defense Fund president Jeanne Mancini expressed enthusiasm about the appointment, also in an interview with The Daily Signal.
“Charmaine will help [HHS] with their messaging and she is very gifted at communication both digitally and in person.”
Yeost has long been recognized for her strong pro-life positions, a fact not lost on Planned Parenthood – which was understandably not very happy about her appointment.
“It is unacceptable that someone with a history of promoting myths and false information about women’s health is appointed to a government position whose main responsibility is to provide the public with accurate and factual information,” Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood, said in a statement provided to The Daily Signal.
And for anyone involved in the pro-life movement, that statement alone is reason to rejoice.
