Hollywood Hypocrisy: George Clooney Thinks the Amount of Money He’s Raising For Hillary Clinton is “Obscene”

Hollywood superstar George Clooney thinks there’s an “obscene” amount of money in politics. Which is why he has decided to lead by example and encourage his rich friends to only pay a minimal amount to candidates they support.

Just kidding – he hosted a giant fundraiser for Hillary Clinton over the weekend where the top ticket was $353,000 per couple.

But look, George isn’t happy about it. Talking to Chuck Todd on Meet The Press this weekend, Clooney revealed how bothered he is by the position he’s forced to take. “Yes, I think it’s an obscene amount of money,” he said. “The Sanders campaign, when they talk about it, is absolutely right. It is ridiculous that we should have this kind of money in politics.”

So…why do it? Well, mainly the Koch Brothers, who Clooney says are spending $900 million on down-ticket races, so “our job is to try to counter that in some way.”

Plus, it’s not even going to Hillary Clinton herself. “The overwhelming amount of the money that we’re raising is not going to Hillary to run for president, it’s going to the down-ticket,” he said. Politifact called that “mostly true,” then went on to explain all the ways that’s not really true, since $2,700 of every donation does go directly to Clinton’s campaign.
