In Support of Allowing Every Delegate to Vote His/Her Conscience

Conservatives Against Trump condemns in the strongest possible terms the thuggish and unlawful tactics deployed yesterday by Republican National Committee leaders and the Donald J. Trump campaign to silence dissenters to the Convention Rules package, and stifle transparency and freedom of speech on the Convention floor.

We support the right of Convention delegates to actually cast votes and have them recorded, and we anticipate such an effort in this afternoon’s presidential balloting.

The strong-arming of delegates, hiding of officials, blatant, on-camera ignoring of the outcome of votes, and overt lying regarding major disagreements at the Convention is reminiscent of political mechanics in your average Third World, tin-pot dictatorship. And to be clear, it must stop unless the GOP wants to further alienate its conservative grassroots.

You’re not going to ‘Make America Great Again’ by copy-catting Hugo Chavez.”
