It is Probably Time for Rex Tillerson to Go

I don’t have a serious problem with Tillerson, though the State Department does seem to get better policy direction from the UN Ambassador than the Secretary of State. However, I think Tillerson has had enough. For the nation’s top diplomat, he had to know his statement to Chris Wallace on Sunday would be read as him putting distance between himself and the President.

The President has been more and more vexed by his Secretary of State and vice versa. Both men are frustrated with the other and the President seems to be putting Jared Kushner in charge of more of Tillerson’s portfolio.

It is probably past time for Tillerson to go. He is having lunch with the President today and that may very well happen. It wouldn’t surprise me and it would be a good idea.

I would, however, hate to see him replaced with Nikki Haley if only because I think the Secretary of State is in a no win situation regardless of who is in charge there. Kushner and others in the White House think they are the Secretary of State, putting the actual one in unwinnable situations.

Regardless, something has to give and I think Tillerson leaving is what will give.
