On Wednesday morning, hours after Donald Trump was elected president, an 18-year-old female student at the University of Louisiana – Lafayette reported to the Lafayette Police Department she had been attacked by two white men, one of whom was wearing a Trump hat. According to her, the two men stopped their car and attacked her – taking her wallet and hijab while she was on her way to class, screaming racial slurs and hitting her in the process.
The Lafayette Police Department immediately began an investigation – initial reports show it was being investigated as armed robbery with a weapon and a hate crime.
President Joseph Savoie of the University of Louisiana released a statement to remind students the university “strives to provide an environment that nurtures healthy discourse.”
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) picked up on it and chimed in, urging Louisianans “to reject anti-Muslim bigotry.”
And then…. plot twist!
“During the course of the investigation, the female complainant admitted that she fabricated the story about her physical attack as well as the removal of her hijab and wallet by two white males.” – Lafayette Police Department
That’s right – by the end of the day on Thursday, the student admitted to police she had made the whole thing up. The whole thing.
And now? Now, she is being charged by the police for submitting a false report.
I would love to hear President Savoie weigh in on the “environment” down the road in New Orleans. While this Louisiana student was crying wolf, the anti-Trump protestors in New Orleans were hard at work vandalizing the Lee Memorial. Among the vulgarities on the statue? “Die whites die.” They even had a life-size Donald Trump doll that they set on fire.
So what did the ACLU have to say about “die whites die” and the rest of the Lee Memorial anti-Trump ceremony? …Crickets.
