Majority of Americans Support Abortion Restrictions

The majority of Americans want the Supreme Court of the United States to restrict abortions, The Daily Wire reports.

According to a new poll, Americans are vehemently opposed to using tax dollars to fund abortions, and want SCOTUS to “limit the period in which abortions are available.” Knights of Columbus conducted the poll.

59% of voters think that abortion is morally wrong. An overwhelming 83% of those polled oppose the use of tax dollars to support abortion in other countries; 61% want to stop the use of tax dollars from funding abortions in the United States. Not surprisingly, 87% of Trump supporters want the U.S. funding to stop, as opposed to 39% of Clinton supporters.

Even among Clinton supporters, however, limits are desired. 55% of her supporters are for limiting the period in which abortions are legal; while 91% of Trump supporters agree. 74% of Americans want abortion restricted to the first trimester of a pregnancy; 74% of that number, amounting to 55% of Americans, want the Supreme Court to restrict the time period in which an abortion can be obtained.

Carl Anderson, the CEO of Knights of Columbus, is hopeful at the results of the poll.

“There is a consensus in America in favor of significant abortion restrictions, and this common ground exists across party lines, and even among significant numbers of those who are pro-choice. This poll shows that large percentages of Americans, on both sides of the aisle, are united in their opposition to the status quo as it relates to abortion on demand. This is heartening and can help start a new national conversation on abortion.”
