A massive fire that apparently began underneath the I-85 overpass in Atlanta has created a nightmare scenario for commuters in the busy Southeast portion of the city, but it could have been much worse.
The fire became so immense that it apparently melted steel and concrete, causing a section of the major traffic artery to collapse.
Though the Atlanta Fire Department has not pinpointed the exact cause of the fire, they have reported that there were no injuries.
As Governor Deal has announced they are formulating plans to reroute traffic, some commuters have made the most of a bad situation, posting images on social media with comments like, “When you’re just trying to get home and Atlanta is on fire again,” and, referencing the city’s painful Super Bowl loss to the Patriots, “2nd biggest collapse in Atlanta this year.”
