The entire Bush family will be voting for someone other than Donald J. Trump, but former Bush 41 chief of staff John Sununu is on the Trump Train.
“Donald Trump is the only candidate in this race who can bring bold change to Washington D.C. I support the Trump-Pence ticket for their pro-growth agenda and commitment to protecting American interests. Republicans, Independents and smart Democrats need to come together to elect Donald Trump and Mike Pence.” – Governor John H. Sununu
Sununu’s endorsement goes against the political grain of Granite State elites, where even the conservative Manchester Union Leader punted on Trump for Libertarian Gary Johnson. It’s amusing and instructive to read publisher Joseph McQuaid’s statement on that.
A joke on the Internet: Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are together in a lifeboat in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. No land in sight. No ships in sight.
Question: Who survives?
Answer: The American people.

In 1972, Union Leader Publisher William Loeb found himself having to recommend either President Richard Nixon or challenger George McGovern.
Loeb’s advice: Hold your nose and vote for Nixon.
At least Loeb had a choice between two capable, if flawed, candidates. Godson of one President and personal friend to another, Loeb would not envy the choice America faces today between a selfish, self-centered, sanctimonious prig and Donald J. Trump.
Apparently, curmudgeonly Sununu no longer reads his state’s premier newspaper.
Now, for honesty’s sake, I must disclose that I’m from New Hampshire, and lived one town away from where Sununu now lives. I was an acquaintance of his back in the 1980’s, and still have friends who know him. I even gave my N.H. state pin that Sununu gave me from his own lapel when he was governor to Erick as a gift because I no longer wear suits except to weddings and funerals.
Sununu is nothing if not independent. But he’s 77 years old and his relevance as a political force waned a decade or more ago. At least the Bushes will forgive him for cancelling one of their votes. Not that it will make any difference: Clinton leads by over 5 points in the Granite State, so the selfish, self-centered, sanctimonious prig will no doubt get the state’s 4 electoral votes anyway.
