Pence Breaks the Tie: Senate Will Now Probably Kill the Healthcare Bill

Mike Pence broke a tie allowing Republicans to proceed to a debate on the healthcare legislation. In the Senate, there must be a motion to proceed before any debate can occur on underlying legislation.

The result is the Senate can now debate the healthcare legislation, but it probably also means the legislation is going to die. Some senators will vote for a motion to proceed to debate even though they are opposed. The Democrats will not join the legislation so the GOP cannot afford to lose any but two votes. Susan Collins is opposed so they are down to one vote.

It looks like Obamacare will remain.
