People Are Idiots

People are idiots. They are reactive, quick to judge, hostile, and the internet makes it all worse. The latest example is the stupid story about the gorilla getting shot after a four year old fell into the gorilla’s pen.

The real outrage here should be at the parents whose neglect caused all of this, but much of it is armchair quarterbacking the situation. People are reacting based on footage they saw later when none of these people were actually there. Sadly, I’m willing to bet the outrage over the gorilla getting killed far exceeds any outrage that would have occurred had the four year old been torn limb from limb by the gorilla.

It provides another data point on why police cameras are ultimately a bad idea. While there are some bad police officers out there, more and more we are going to see second guessing based on video that does not display the whole situation or that can be interpreted very differently from how events actually played out.

People are idiots. And the online mob of idiots has collapsed our civic behavior with people rooting for an orange baboon to become President of the United States or other idiots championing a socialist whose ideas would lead to national bankruptcy or an old woman who should be indicted.

In a nation of the people, for the people, and by the people, we are rather getting what the people deserve. People are idiots. Hell, 51% of them supported Barack Obama. Need I say more?
