Recuse This

The Otto von Bismarck, a man who knew a thing or two about the subject, once famously said, “Politics is the art of the possible.”  But what happens when one’s political opponents try to turn that mundane art into a criminal act?  Ordinary politics become impossible, making it harder and harder to act within the confines of the current system, and the act of governing grinds to a complete halt.

This is what the Democrats are trying to do with Jeff Sessions.  Unable to stop him from being confirmed as attorney general, they are no seeking to neutralize him with a bogus perjury charge.  In their dreams, they’d like to see him resign.  At the very least, they demand that he recuse himself from any Department of Justice probe into Russian interference with the 2016 election.  The media, still high off scalping Mike Flynn, are seeking another fix by hyping this into the Next-Biggest-Scandal-Since-Watergate.  And even some Republicans are getting in on the act, starting yet another cycle of GOP virtue-signaling by eating their own at the slightest provocation.

So why the sudden urgency?  Well, there’s this:

Which Kurt Schlichter summed up neatly:

The Democrats simply cannot allow Donald Trump to gain any momentum, so what do they do?  They criminalize Jeff Sessions’ testimony during his confirmation hearings.  Of course, it doesn’t matter if any of it is true.  The process of forcing his recusal and the endless hearings they’ll be demanding will be punishment enough–and in the meanwhile, the work of freezing the Trump agenda will continue with the next #FakeNews driven scandal.

Well, nuts to that.

Barack Obama’s DOJ ran guns to Mexican drug lords.  Attorney General Eric Holder was held in contempt of Congress for refusal to turn over documents related to that very real scandal.  Loretta Lynch conducted ex parte communications with Bill Clinton while his wife was under active investigation by the FBI.  Did they recuse themselves from any investigation?

Accordingly, Jeff Sessions should tell the Democrats to go screw themselves.  And Donald Trump should back him to the hilt.

After  that, Sessions should dig deep into Obama’s scandals and declassify every last damn thing that he can and release it to the public.  From then on, the Trump administration should make it a mission to make sure that all of America knows exactly how corrupt its predecessor truly was.

Put simply, the line must be drawn.  A signal must be sent:  It ends here.  We conservatives didn’t want this fight–but with Barack Obama actively mounting a political insurgency, the rules have changed.

If it’s war they want, I say we let them have it.
