Despite the title, this really isn’t about Donald Trump. This is about the evangelicals who last week decided to embrace Donald Trump as their best chance to stop Hillary Clinton.
Donald Trump has, since last year, professed himself a Christian or, more specifically, a Presbyterian of the Norman Vincent Peale variety. Evangelicals have been skeptical because Trump has repeatedly said he has never had to ask God for forgiveness, even after being told that was a crucial tenet of the Christian faith.
Less than one week ago, 1000 evangelicals met with Trump. They included Franklin Graham, Ronnie Floyd, James Dobson, David Jeremiah, and others.
Today, less than one week later, the press is suddenly buzzing that someone told someone that Trump recently found Jesus. The someone who was told and is the second hand person happens to be James Dobson, the eighty year old former head of Focus on the Family.
So let’s get this straight. Less than a week ago, evangelicals meet with Trump and, after much criticism for the embrace some gave him, someone told James Dobson who told the media that Trump found Jesus recently.
I thought he was a Christian last year.
If you are a Christian and do not have a sense of shame over this story, you should. This is shameful and embarrassing. It is made more embarrassing that someone would take advantage of an eighty year old James Dobson.
Somebody told somebody who told the media that the man who professed to being a Christian a year ago really is now a Christian and only just found Jesus in the last little while.
