My friend Dan McLaughlin worked in the World Trade Center on the 54th floor of one of the towers. That day 14 years ago, men in planes tried to kill him.

We encounter things in life that some chalk up to as luck and others as providence. Either way, Dan McLaughlin lived because he had stopped to do his democratic duty. It was election day in New York City and Dan had gone to vote.
