New York Times Just Endorsed Joe Biden for President

First the New York Times ran a story claiming that Hillary Clinton might be under criminal investigation because of her emails. After furious push back from Team Clinton, the Times walked back the story. The feud with Clinton overshadowed a Wall Street Journal story saying basically the same thing.

Then Maureen Dowd pushed out a soft piece attacking Hillary and promoting Biden. Dowd clearly used Biden family sources in the piece. There was no way she otherwise got some of the information for her piece.

Now comes this story pushed out to iPhones, Apple Watches, and more as a New York Times exclusive alert.

According to the New York Times, Joe Biden is rethinking 2016 and considering it. He is, in the words of the Times, “Joe Biden Said to Be Taking New Look at Presidential Run”.

There is a steady drumbeat for Biden 2016. And the drum sound is coming from New York City. The New York Times realizes how vulnerable Hillary is and, to be honest, they’ve never liked her anyway.

Hunter Biden Joins the Ukraine Gas Conglomerate’s Board

If you go there now you may get a 404 error like I just did. But if you go to the Google cache you’ll find that while Vice President Biden was visiting Ukraine, the country decided to put Hunter Biden on the board of Burisma.

According to the press release of Ukraine’s largest gas provider,

R. Hunter Biden will be in charge of the Holdings’ legal unit and will provide support for the Company among international organizations. On his new appointment, he commented: “Burisma’s track record of innovations and industry leadership in the field of natural gas means that it can be a strong driver of a strong economy in Ukraine. As a new member of the Board, I believe that my assistance in consulting the Company on matters of transparency, corporate governance and responsibility, international expansion and other priorities will contribute to the economy and benefit the people of Ukraine.”

Also now getting a 404 error is this press release, which states that Devon Archer, a business partner of Hunter Biden’s, was also put on the board on or around April 22, 2014.

Isn’t this what third world kleptocracies do? They reward the friends and family of the powerful? This doesn’t smell right. Ukraine is already reeling from a series of corruption scandals. And now this. We are an American kleptocracy where only the chosen few can profit.

The Real Joe Biden: The Wrongest Man To Ever Utter Wrong Things

The Obama campaign keeps claiming that Mitt Romney did not really show up last Wednesday. Apparently it was ManBearPig, which is why Al Gore decided to raise his voice with the altitude conspiracy. I wonder if the real Joe Biden will show up tonight. Biden, who considers himself an expert on all things foreign policy, famously admitted to opposing Obama going after Osama. He’s like | Read More »

Not the Behavior of a Winning Campaign

The media keeps showing its rear end. Let me just make that clear. If you are a competent reporter, I’m not sure how you cannot be embarrassed by the majority of those in your profession right now covering politics.

From Mark Halperin, to Jake Tapper, to Chuck Todd, more journalists are actually now admitting just how pliable the media is when it comes to Barack Obama’s spin. All week long, as the economy deteriorates, most every anchor at most every news outlet, most every editorialist in most every paper, and most every “centrist” and liberal pundit has been pointing out the GOP’s extremist abortion position.

Few, if any, have pointed out that Barack Obama’s abortion on demand position is extreme. Few, if any, have pointed out how most Americans favor restrictions on abortion. Few, if any, have pointed out that Mitt Romney’s position is actually more mainstream than Barack Obama’s. Few, if any, have wanted to go beyond Politifact’s ham-handed cover for Obama on infanticide and get into what Barack Obama actually said in 2002. Hear him come out for infanticide yourself right here. Remember, the media is hiding behind the left-leaning Politifact (and yes, it does lean left) to avoid having to deal with this.

They cannot help themselves. But why are they doing it?

They are doing it for the exact same reason Joe Biden is claiming the GOP will put black people back in chains and why Barack Obama would rather talk about uteri than jobs — they all know Barack Obama is losing this thing.

Hysteria creeps into campaigns when the campaigns know they are losing. When George H. W. Bush saw the election slipping away in 1992, he took to referring to Bill Clinton and Al Gore as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. The invective went up as his poll numbers went down.

Barack Obama and the Democrats are going to throw in the towel on the tradition of sitting on the sidelines during their opponent’s political convention. In the past, the parties did this with each other. Not now. The Obama campaign cannot afford to. It is too close and polling is about to shift from registered voters to likely voters, which will generate negative numbers for him. He must surrender another tradition to engage in more hyper partisan mudslinging because he is losing.

More and more polls are showing Mitt Romney trending upwards in swing states. More and more polls are showing Americans growing more pessimistic about the economy. More and more economists are starting to worry about the economy. Gas prices and milk prices are going up while take home pay is going down.

The hysterics we are seeing from the Democrats come as reality hits everyone. Even I have been convinced that Romney was going to blow this thing. The stupid statement about the Soptics not having the fate they had if they were in Massachusetts could have been game over.

But then Paul Ryan became the veep pick. He has now given Romney purpose. He has defined the campaign. He has put Barack Obama on defense. Consider this — the sage voices of the GOP were convinced the GOP could not win the fight on budgetary and entitlement reform. They were convinced Paul Ryan would sink the ticket.

Then the Democrats tried to define Paul Ryan and failed. They have been failing ever since. Their attempts to define Mitt Romney didn’t do enough and they have yet to settle on a narrative to define Paul Ryan. They are grasping at straws. Now they’d even fight the Associated Press style book to try to go after Paul Ryan.

And that gets us back to the media. At what point will they finally start asking if Barack Obama needs a campaign shake up? Because if it was Mitt Romney in the same boat, they sure as hell would. In fact, there have already been two different media cycles about Romney needing a campaign shake up and not one about Barack Obama.

Why? The simple truth remains the vast majority of the media is more sympathetic to and friendly with Team Obama and would hate to ruffle the feathers of friends. It’s one of the greatest thing Mitt Romney has going for him right now.

The Crazy Fool From the Attic Turned Vice President Race Baits

In fairness to Vice President Biden, I supposed I should have a full post for our collective crazy uncle in the attic turned Vice President. The man from Delaware claimed that Republicans want to put people back in chains. Considering there is only one group of people ever put in chains in this country, it is clear he was race baiting. I have no doubt this was orchestrated by the Obama campaign, which immediately is again screaming that the old fool was taken out of context.

It is remarkable that the party that thinks “states rights” is racist code thinks “put you back in chains” is hot and sexy talk. It is remarkable that the party that heard Sarah Palin had a political target list and cried foul would think telling people the GOP will enslave them is okay. It is remarkable that the party that screams bloody murder when you say they are marxists is okay with Joe Biden claiming the GOP will put people back in chains. It is remarkable that the party that screams bloody murder the moment you mention a death panel has no problem saying the GOP wants to put you back in chains. In short, if you use Barack Obama’s middle name, you are a racist. But if you race bait a crowd by telling them Mitt Romney will put them back in chains, Stephanie Cutter, the President’s spokesgal is cool with that. She’s also cool with telling people Mitt Romney killed a woman by giving her cancer and is perfectly cool with lying about her knowledge of Joe Soptic.

Actually, it’s not really remarkable at all. Inciting racial animosity for political gain has been the Democratic playbook since the Democrats were, well, not to put too fine a point on it, putting black people in chains. But I’m sure we are just, again, taking the Democrats all out of context.

Not Enough

Just under a month ago, I wrote

Of all the people to not be beating up Mitt Romney for his present not quite stellar campaign, I find myself in that position.

I’m genuinely not that worried.

I am still not worried, but I am getting concerned. This election is trending away from Romney as the economy deteriorates and more Americans believe the economy is getting worse. That should be a red flag for the GOP.

Romney 2012 donationpage vpbumperDuring the month of June, Barack Obama had a terrible month. Since then, he has continued to make some serious flubs. But through it all, Team Romney has really failed to capitalize on those stumbles and Romney has had a bad month himself. His message has not broken.

He tried an international trip and timed it during the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games. It got little attention except for his own missteps.

Today, he announced a very bold pick in Paul Ryan. This forces the message to be about the economy and our long term future. It is a fight worth having and one we can win. But I am less and less confident that Team Romney, as presently constituted, can win that fight.

Picking Paul Ryan must be the beginning of a campaign shake up, not the end.

Consider that in all the polling in August, from Gallup to CNN to Fox News, Barack Obama is ahead. You can take issue with one or two of the polls, but the trend is consistent.

Another trend is consistent.

Mitt Romney continues to outperform Barack Obama on key issues like the economy, jobs, and the national debt — the very issues the campaign is about, yet he is still behind.

Part of it is the summer doldrums. Part of it is Romney not having a lot of money to spend until officially accepting the Republican nomination. But a good part of it is Romney’s team. Several of them have been touting themselves and how awesome they are instead of the candidate. Let’s not forget the Stu Stevens hagiography. Eric Fehrnstrom and Andrea Saul have made their own missteps that have taken away from key momentum.

Today, the Romney camp sent out a talking points sheet claiming that while picking Paul Ryan, Romney had his own budget plans. This is delusional and not credible spin. You pick Paul Ryan, you defend his budget. It is that simple. That one bullet point sums up a summer of dysfunction. The Romney team seems to be believing its own spin, which can often lead to disaster.

Team Romney-Ryan has the chance for a real reboot. But it is one they need to take it. While I am not yet worried, I am concerned by the consistent propensity of Team Romney to not capitalize on Barack Obama’s missteps and to trip over their own feet when they get ahead.

Paul Ryan is not enough. Mitt Romney does need to prune and fertilizer his campaign team.
