Planned Parenthood and Family Restaurants Do Not Make For a Winning Mix

Over at my gig with RedState on Wednesday, I gave account of a horrible partnership between Planned Parenthood and Chili’s Restaurant.

The basic premise of the story was this: Planned Parenthood in two states – Indiana and Kentucky – were providing vouchers for supporters to take into Chili’s restaurants around those states. Those vouchers directed that 15% of the pre-tax meal cost, whether dine-in or takeout, would be donated to Planned Parenthood. It was to run from January 2017 to March 2017.

A similar fundraiser was conducted in 2011 in California, but the outcry from pro-life groups shut it down.

Now, there is a victory for pro-life citizens, who don’t feel public, family-oriented businesses should be partnering with organizations like Planned Parenthood. reports:

Today, the corporate office of Chili’s restaurants reached out to with information that the Planned Parenthood fundraiser has been cancelled. Chili’s told LifeNews that the decision to engage in the Planned Parenthood fundraiser was made by a local franchise partner not by the national corporate office.

“At Chili’s, we have a longstanding history and take pride in giving back to unite our local communities together. We recognize every community is unique, and encourage our restaurant managers and franchise partners to support causes that help bring communities together and leave a positive impact on our valued Guests, neighbors, friends and families we serve,” Chili’s Grill & Bar told LifeNews.

“Yesterday, we learned that an independent franchise partner of Chili’s in Indiana and Kentucky made the decision to host a Chili’s Give Back Event on behalf of Planned Parenthood Indiana and Kentucky. While our franchise partner had the best intentions; we have received growing feedback and concern from community members regarding the Give Back Event,” the restaurant chain continued. “This feedback does not reflect Chili’s focus on bringing communities together and the event was never intended to be viewed as a partisan event or political statement, therefore we, along with our franchise partner, have decided to cancel the event.”

“We will more clearly communicate the focus of Chili’s charitable giving efforts, so that our restaurant managers and franchise partners can feel empowered to support local organizations that bring communities together,” Chili’s added.

This is good news for me. Chili’s is one of my favorite restaurants, and I’d hate to give them up, but I was prepared to do so, if need be.

I also want to point out the importance of distinguishing between Chili’s, as a whole, and the fact that this “give back” event was confined to two states and those franchises.

Further, I’ll say that what people want to do with their own money, whether it be support Planned Parenthood or flush it down the toilet, that isn’t for us to judge.

However, for a business that deals with the public, if they wish to remain in good standing, they need to remain cognizant of the fact that the public is made up of individuals from different walks of life, different ideological leanings, and strongly held spiritual foundations.

Their job is to remain apolitical, and keep a focus on just providing the best quality service they can.

You can go here to thank Chili’s, as a corporation, for hearing the outcry of the people and doing something about it.

A Horrific Article About National Right to Life

You need to read this story. It is just horrific and shows how low National Right to Life has fallen. They’re putting issues of access and politics in Washington ahead of their core mission.

Despite National Right to Life’s silence on the issue, there are a growing chorus of conservative aides who say the group has become nothing more than an arm of the Republican establishment, just carrying out orders from McConnell.

“When it comes to strategy and actually scoring votes they’re terrible,” one senior aide on Capitol Hill told Conservative Review. “They’ve gotten very cozy with leadership. They consider themselves to be legislative experts so when people in Congress put forward good [anti] abortion amendments they (National Right to Life) won’t support it. They actually actively work against it.”

This is just atrocious.
