Everyone is so focused on Trump’s ongoing antagonism of Jeff Sessions that no one is paying attention to Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price. There is a man who should be looking at what is happening with Jeff Sessions and readying his exit strategy.
Whether the GOP passes or does not pass healthcare legislation, the burden is going to fall on Secretary Price. He will be in charge of the regulations. There will be an organized media campaign against anything and everything related to the legislation. The President, who pays attention to the media, will inevitably see it.
It is only a matter of time before he starts blaming Secretary Price for any and all ills related to healthcare insurance and access to affordable medicine in America. The President will take all the credit available and pile any blame on the Secretary. There will be blame to come. The GOP plan does not repeal Obamacare and, in fact, will make some situations worse or more expensive.
Because no Democrats will vote for the plan, the President will not have them to blame. He will most likely not blame Congress because he will have a herd of Republicans up for re-election who will push back. So he will blame his Secretary of Health and Human Services and as the media noise grows so too will the pressure on Tom Price.
Given the President’s treatment of his most loyal cabinet secretary, I would not want to be Tom Price right now.
