Donald Trump is beginning what will be a series of high-dollar fundraisers at the behest of RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. According to the Washington Post, Trump will headline a $10,000-a-plate gathering in Albuquerque.
The event, which requires a $10,000 donation, is being hosted by Kevin R. Daniels, the owner of a funeral services company and prominent GOP donor, according to details obtained by The Washington Post.
In an interview, Daniels said he was putting on the fundraiser at the request of RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. “I am a pretty big supporter of Republican causes and the United States, and always vowed to support whoever our nominee is,” Daniels said.
Between 20 and 25 people are expected to attend the reception, which includes a photo line with the candidate. “I’m sure it’s going to be one of many,” Daniels said.
Priebus and Trump have also set up a fundraising operation which can accept donations up to $449,400 per person. The next stop for Trump is Los Angeles, starting at $25 grand per plate.
They’ll need all the cash they can get to counter the billion dollar spend the Democrats will lay out. In reality, it may not help much to get Trump in the White House–I think The Donald has his own strategy for that, which has worked in the past and for which Hillary has no defense. I don’t think Trump’s plan will even cost a whole lot, because his plata o plomo media arm-twisting tends to yield results without buying actual ads. Ratings have an allure of their own.
What will the cash be used for? To help downballot races is where I think it will go. Presenting Trump as a non-scary, “presidential” candidate is necessary to counter the ads in Congressional and Senate races where Democrats tie the GOP incumbent to Trump, even if they haven’t explicitly endorsed him.
Trump enjoys ballroom luncheons filled with high dollar donors, because it makes him feel valuable, so he should be a very effective fundraiser. A man who can
con convince people to invest their life savings in real estate scams schemes and vitamin pyramids marketing has to be comfortable asking for money. He should raise every dime Priebus wants.
