The problem with a cult of personality is that the members of the cult will accept no truth other that the utterances of the cult leader and anything to the contrary of the cult leader’s statements are considered heresies. Thus it is that sites like Gateway Pundit, Breitbart, and Drudge are routinely reassuring Trump’s voters that all is well and he is on track to win. This is a phenomenon Republicans experienced in 2012 with Romney, but it is even more amplified now.
No bit of evidence will dissuade Trump supporters from their cult leader’s truth and anyone who suggests otherwise is to be burned at the stake. But in the real world, Donald Trump is losing badly. His entire post-convention lead is gone. What’s more, Clinton is gaining new ground among core demographics that Trump needs, including blue collar white voters, and Trump is not making inroads towards Clinton’s demographics.
I know the Trump propaganda machine says otherwise and if you go to those sites you can find that he is only a point behind and social scientists have concluded he is on the path to victory, but in the real world it is not so. But by pointing this out, the Trump propaganda machine has concluded I must be helping Hillary.
