Appearing on This Week with George Stephanopoulos, Donald Trump countered the primary attack Khizr Khan made against him: “You have sacrificed nothing.”
There’s no arguing with that statement, of course. Trump claimed “some scriptwriters” wrote it. But it’s still true. Compared with a Gold Star parent, who has lost a son to war serving the U.S. military, Trump has sacrificed nothing.
I think I made a lot of sacrifices. I work very, very hard. I’ve created thousands of thousands of jobs.
So, in Trump’s view, his work, which he has always said he enjoys immensely, to the exclusion of many other things, is equal to losing a son in battle. I suppose Donald Jr, Eric and Barron must be glad of that, because otherwise they might be thrown in a volcano to make their dad happy.
It’s a disgusting statement and unworthy of anyone running for high office. It is, in fact, indefensible.
