We’re Back To Gun Control, This Time It’s Harry Reid

It’s like pulling a string on an old talking doll. The same old lines come out every time. “No fly, no buy.”

Every time there’s a terror attack on U.S. soil, congressional Democrats call for another round of gun control. This time it’s Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid.

“We can argue from now on about whether this bill would have prevented this weekend’s attacks,” Reid, D-Nev., said. “But one thing is for sure, it would prevent the next attack.”

There are many reasons why Reid’s statement is total horse manure. One of them is that there’s no arguing over whether a bill to add hundreds of thousands of individuals to a no-gun list would have stopped a pipe and pressure cooker bomb attack. It wouldn’t have, period.

Another is that the solution Democrats keep proposing won’t work. It’s just gun control, period, lay aside any terror considerations, and it’s the most terrible, arbitrary and inefficient way to handle the problem. Back in June, Texas Sen. John Cornyn introduced a common-sense bill which would do more to prevent terror attacks using guns, but Democrats killed it with a stupid bit of theater in a 15-hour filibuster.

Now Congress is back in session, and more terror attacks have occurred, but we hear no call to ban knife purchases by people on the terror watch list. Oh, and by the way, Ahmad Khan Rahami was only added to the watch list after the bombings. Pretty useless gesture, there, since Rahami had a gun on him when police found him–and used it to shoot at them.

The Democrats are going to keep resurrecting their idiotic plan over and over again, while killing any Republican plan to accomplish the actual task, until Republicans cave in to it. They have no interest in doing anything except establishing a guaranteed method to stop anyone in America from purchasing a gun, because some bureaucrat says so.

Watch out after the election, because we all know that lame duck sessions of Congress are dangerous. This is when they’ll probably get this dump truck of manure passed and signed into law.
