What We Know So Far About FBI Director Comey’s Letter on New Emails

Here is what we know so far.

The FBI Director notified Congress that the FBI was looking at new emails. Some reports say there are just three new emails. [UPDATE} Other reports say in the thousands. Legally, he had to notify Congress because the situation had changed from his prior testimony.

From news reports, it appears an unrelated and separate investigation turned up new emails. According to the FBI, the new emails do not come from John Podesta’s computer or from the Wikileaks situation. We also do not know if the device is a computer or mobile device.

What we do know is that the emails in question are not from Hillary Clinton.

Putting all that together, I’m wondering if this is the investigation that turned up the new emails. If there were emails between Huma and Anthony, they’d be relevant.

Of course, given the Clinton ties to Terry McAuliffe, perhaps it is this one. But the Anthony Weiner one sound more plausible. A grand jury has convened over the Weiner matter.

It’s a good thing the FBI got this out now because if they did it after the election it’d look like a real cover up. But let’s be honest. Everything about the Obama Administration is political, including the investigation into Clinton’s emails. Comey may have been under legal obligation to do this, but twelve days before the general election? Sounds like the Obama Administration believes Clinton has won, they don’t think this will change the trajectory of the race, and they can say Comey had to do this to cover themselves when asked “why now”.

UPDATE: Sources are confirming the emails came from the Anthony Weiner investigation.
