Whoa: Billboard Goes After Muhammad

This is going to get attention. On I-465 around Indianapolis, a billboard has gone up challenging the world’s 1.6 billion Muslims regarding the integrity of their Prophet.

The Quran says of Muhammad, “Indeed you stand on an exalted standard of character.” Unlike Christians who believe Jesus was a perfect man, Islam teaches Allah was “perfecting” Muhammad, who was lifted above all other men. This billboard takes dead aim at that notion.

At the top of the ad it states, “The Perfect Man,” and then underneath lists six accusations against Muhammad:

  • Married 6 year old
  • Slave owner and dealer
  • Rapist
  • Beheaded 600 Jews in one day
  • 13 wives, 11 at one time
  • Tortured and killed unbelievers

There is no mention on the billboard itself as to who owns the sign or sponsors the message. Anti-sharia law activist Pamela Geller and her organization AFDI (American Freedom Defense Initiative) has been associated with billboard campaigns outing the Prophet Muhammad in the past, but is not connected to the Indianapolis billboard.

In those instances, Lamar – one of the nation’s largest billboard owning companies – shot down Geller’s ads, though they were nothing more than direct quotes of Muhammad.

The Indy billboard lacks any Lamar nameplate meaning it is likely privately owned, making any effort to protest its presence quite difficult.  But I’m pretty sure there will still be one.
